Johannes “Hanski” Wallmann

I started playing ice hockey in 2001, when I was 25, after discovering the NYC Gay Hockey Association on a random google search. Despite no prior playing (and very little skating) experience, I quickly fell in love with the sport. Over the years, I've played on several LGBT and straight hockey teams in New York, and then from 2007-2012 in the SF Bay Area. I've moved around a lot, so I always love visiting old friends at LGBT hockey tournaments, including the 2006 Montreal Outgames, the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, and tournaments in D.C., Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, L.A. and (almost every year) the NY Chelsea Challenge. Away from hockey, I'm a jazz pianist and composer. My husband and I moved to Madison in 2012, when I'm a professor in UW's School of Music. I joined the MGHA that year, and since then, I've played every season, including captaining the Green Gay Puckers (13-14), the Hu$tlers (14-15), and Skate, Forrest, Skate! (15-16).
