Sept. 21-Oct. 5 scrimmages, skills clinics, and evaluation sign-ups!

Hey MGHA! We’ve got a lot of exciting preseason stuff going on this weekend, consider this your friendly reminder to double check your sign-ups and calendar for all things hockey!

We’re entering a busy month of clinics, scrimmages, and skill evaluations leading up to team reveal night in mid October! More details are coming about skill evaluations for L1 and L2 next week, but we’ll be kicking things off with goalie evaluations and the L3 evaluation scrimmage this weekend. A few notes before you next roll up to the rink:

1. Double-check that you have added your league preferences and your play-with or do-not-feel-safe-playing-with requests to the logistics page of your player profile. We are in the process of finalizing the number of teams in each level or league (L1, L2, & L3) of the MGHA and need to know where you would prefer to play this season. Wanna learn more about the different levels? Check out the MGHA Players’ Handbook for descriptions of game scenarios and suggested skills checklists for each.

2. Get signed up for evaluations, skills clinics, and scrimmages! Everyone who is new to the MGHA or is planning to move up a level of play this year needs to sign up for an evaluation session. You can initially only sign up for one skating session per Sunday, but check back around 48 hours beforehand! If there are still open spots you are welcome to sign up for a second clinic or scrimmage then.

September 21st sign-up sheets

September 28th sign-up sheets

October 5th sign-up sheets

3. Volunteer to help out with evaluations, skills clinics, and scrimmages! We need lots of hands to keep evals running smoothly! Consider signing up at the links above to help out with running evaluation stations or coaching our skills clinics if you have some hockey experience. We have a compilation of hockey skills and drills on the website you can use if you need ideas! This weekend we need shot-takers for goalie evaluations If you have a fairly consistent shot, consider signing up to help out our goalies!

Also! We’re in the process of recruiting captains and coaches for the season! If you’re interested in helping out in either of those roles let us (hockey-ops@madisongayhockey.org) know! More info in the Players’ Handbook.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more details about evaluations—we know it’s a lot of info this time of year, thanks for sticking with us!

Happy hockey,

Greta, on behalf of HOps 🌈🏒🥅
