Format
The MGHA playoffs are in the Swiss system tournament format. This format was chosen because it allows all teams to play in every round of the tournament.
The first round is seeded according to the results of the regular season. Game rules and format will be the same as during the regular season, and standings will likewise be calculated the same as during the regular season (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie). Standings and tie-breakers after the initial seedings will only use tournament results.
The tie-breakers are:
- head-to-head results
- least goals against
- goal differential (total goals for minus total goals against)
Win, lose, or draw, all teams proceed to the next round where teams are pitted against teams with similar rankings. In subsequent rounds, teams face opponents with the same (or almost the same) ranking. No team is paired up against the same opponent twice, however.
The tournament last for three rounds. After the last round, teams are ranked again, which will be used to determine the lineup for Championship Night.
