We are proud to be the premier LGBTQA ice hockey league in Wisconsin and to provide an environment free of harassment and discrimination for members and friends of our community to play ice hockey and fulfill their athletic aspirations. We are a comprehensive league that supports and encourages both beginners and seasoned players to interact, teach, learn and foster athletic development in a welcoming, constructive environment. I have some exciting news players!

We have made team selections...

Here are the results of the eagerly anticipated 08-09 Season Draft!  We worked hard to keep the process fair and impartial, to balance the teams by skill level, gender ratio, and the number of new-to-the-league folks, AND to accommodate as many requests as we possibly could.  In the end--while there were few preferences we simply couldn't make work given the complexity of other factors--we were pleased how smoothly the team selection process went and believe the balance we achieved is as close to perfect as we can get without risking the wrath of the gods.

Capitol Ice Arena

Games are held at the Capitol Ice Arena, 2616 Pleasant View Road, Middleton, WI 53562 [map] on Sundays, on Sundays from 6:20pm - 9:40pm. The season runs from September through February.

Admission & Concessions

Admission to MGHA games is free!

Concessions are provided by the local high schools' GSA organizations. Have a cup of hot cocoa and support our young people!

Hello MGHA’ers!

Alas, the season will be commencing in a short two weeks!  With the first round of games scheduled for the evening of October 19^th, there are a few quick things that need to happen before that.

 EVALUATIONS: 

The first important distinction is that this is NOT TRYOUTS!  We love everyone and look forward to playing with/against everyone!  But to ensure that the teams are balanced and the level of game play remains even, we need to figure out how awesome each of you are.  So, evals are scheduled to take place this upcoming Sunday, October 5^th.  Please attend your scheduled time slot – the same one as for skills sessions.  The reason is that we will have you guys wear the MGHA championship black/white jerseys to help the evaluators keep track of everyone.  Since there are a limited number of jerseys, it’s important that you attend your scheduled time so we don’t have too many people at one session.  Check the e-mail that was sent out a few weeks back or the following link if you forgot where you need to be: http://madisongayhockey.org/node/4743.  The names/times are listed at the bottom of the page.  If you have a time commitment and can’t make your scheduled eval time, please let me know ASAP so we can figure something out!  Send an e-mail to hockey-ops@madisongayhockey.org.

USA Hockey Registration, League Fees, Financial Assistance, and More…

USA Hockey Registration

All players must register online with USA Hockey before the first practice on September 21. For liability reasons, you will not be allowed to step on the ice without having registered. The cost is $35 and is paid by credit/debit card.

Thanks to all the players who submitted your essays for the 2007-08 MGHA Essay Contests. Congratulations to Benji Sudolcan and Geoffrey Gyrisco, whose essays were selected by the judges, earning them a trip to the NYCGHA's Chelsea Challenge tournament this summer.

At the recent MGHA board retreat the board ratified a new mission that we think more clearly captures the essence of the league. In developing the new mission we relied heavily on the input you gave us in the end-of-season surveys, so thanks again to all who responded.

The Madison Gay Hockey Association is an adult developmental ice hockey league for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and Allied (LGBTQA) Community. We provide opportunities to learn and teach ice hockey in a safe, supportive and fun environment.
