Welcome to the Madison Gay Hockey Association
Welcome to the online home of the Madison Gay Hockey Association. We are proud to be the premier LGBTQA ice hockey league in Wisconsin and to provide an environment free of harassment and discrimination for members and friends of our community to play ice hockey and fulfill their athletic aspirations. We are a comprehensive league that supports and encourages both beginners and seasoned players to interact, teach, learn and foster athletic development in a welcoming, constructive environment. Take some time to browse the site. From our player profiles to our forums, our photos to the community calendar, we work hard to provide a means for anyone interested to become a part of the MGHA!
Greetings MGHAers! We hope your summer has been going well. Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about hockey. The 2008-09 season is fast approaching, and we have some important information and opportunities for involvement to share with you.
We will kick off the season with the Stick Taping Party on Sunday, September 14th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Neighborhood House Community Center, which is giving us a significant rental discount in exchange for a food drive to help fill their pantry shelves. So, let's show Neighborhood House what great neighbors we are by bringing at least one nonperishable food item per person to the party. Then relax and enjoy free pizza/soda/water with your fellow MGHAers and learn what's in store for the coming season. For those of you who are new to hockey, we'll have a stick taping demo (bring your stick!), a gear demo ("how do I put on all this stuff?"), and an explanation of the rules. If you've already registered for USA Hockey, bring your confirmation printout with you, otherwise we'll have computers available for those who want to register. Also learn how to participate in the web forums, update your player profile, or pay fees online.
Of Pillows, Streets, and Hockey-ACT-Riders
Join us this Sunday, August 24th at noon at the High Noon Saloon. A number of your own from the MGHA will be among the hardened pillow slingers, lovely ring girls, and corrupt judges featured in the upcoming Pillowpalooza II: Revenge of the Killer Pillows. This smacktastic and campy event schemed up by Bri Deyo and Michelle Watkins benefits the AIDS Network, so bring your bribing money in addition to the $5 cover. There will be opportunities for amateur exhibition fights, so let's see how your hockey skills translate to pillow prowess. Ages 21 and up.
Congratulations to all MGHA players who participated in the ACT 6 ride. This photo was sent in by DJ--taken by Lora, and shows 16 of the 25 MGHA players who took part.
07-08 MGHA Essay Contest Entries
Thanks to all the players who submitted your essays for the 2007-08 MGHA Essay Contests. Congratulations to Benji Sudolcan and Geoffrey Gyrisco, whose essays were selected by the judges, earning them a trip to the NYCGHA's Chelsea Challenge tournament this summer.

Pride week-end and big news for MGHA
Happy Pride week-end, everyone! Just wanted to keep you updated on some exciting developments with the MGHA. We've got a new home, some new board members and our '08-'09 Season schedule has been set.
I hope you're having a fabulous summer and I look forward to seeing back out on the ice soon!
Michelle
MGHA's New Home
With an eye towards keeping player dues as low as possible, we have been exploring our options with the area ice rinks. After considering an exhaustive list of factors and carefully weighing the pros and cons of each rink, the members of Hockey Ops and the Board voted unanimously to go with Capitol Ice Arena for the '08-'09 season.
It's the middle of summer, and while the fall hockey season may seem far away, it's already time to start thinking about it.
New Players: Apply
We are currently taking applications for the 2008-09 season which begins in September. If you know someone interested in joining the MGHA, please tell them to submit a New Player Application. The Recruiting committee will contact them within seven days of submitting an application. If there are any questions about the MGHA or the recruiting process, please contact the MGHA Recruiting Committee.
Existing Players: Nominate
Current MGHA players: you have a firsthand understanding of the level of play, open-mindedness, and support provided in the league. As such, your feedback and assessment of new player candidates provide important information in the selection process. If you know someone interested in playing hockey with the MGHA, you can submit a New Player Nomination Form.
NOTE: You must be logged in to the website to get to the nomination form, otherwise you'll be automatically directed to the application form instead.
Updated MGHA Mission Statement
At the recent MGHA board retreat the board ratified a new mission that we think more clearly captures the essence of the league. In developing the new mission we relied heavily on the input you gave us in the end-of-season surveys, so thanks again to all who responded.
