One Week Down...
The first MGHA summer scrimmage is complete, and it was quite an exciting game! Based on player feedback last Sunday, we'll be increasing the number of available slots for skaters each week to 22, so we'll have 11 players on each bench.
And speaking of available slots, this Sunday's scrimmage still has 10 openings!

Updated MGHA Mission Statement
At the board retreat last weekend the board ratified a new mission that we think more clearly captures the essence of the league. In developing the new mission we relied heavily on the input you gave us in the end-of-season surveys, so thanks again to all who responded.
The Madison Gay Hockey Association is an adult developmental ice hockey league for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and Allied (LGBTQA) Community. We provide opportunities to learn and teach ice hockey in a safe, supportive and fun environment. We aspire to the highest standards of sportsmanship and promote integration within the LGBTQA and wider Madison Communities.
Changes on the Board
Having served on the board from the league's inception, David Parter has decided to step down due to outside time commitments. David's time and expertise have helped shape the league and we recognize and thank him for his contributions on the board and also as the chair of Hockey Ops.
Looking ahead, Greg Frahm has agreed to take on the role of chair for the Hockey Ops committee and we are currently seeking candidates to fill the vacancy on the board. Know someone you think would make a good board member? Nominate them! Yes, you can nominate yourself, and if you've expressed interest in the past, please let us know if you are still interested at this time.
The qualities we're looking for are: commitment to the mission of the league, good people skills, organization, knowledge of the game of hockey, and the ability to dedicate the time necessary (varies depending on the time of year with an approximate range of 2 to 8 hours a week).
Please send your nominations via e-mail to the board at board@madisongayhockey.org no later than Sunday June 15th.
If you're nominating another person please tell us who and why you think they would be a good fit on the board. If you're nominating yourself, please answer the following:
- Why do you want to join the board?
- What qualities make you a good candidate?
- Indicate any specific experience or skills which you think might be relevant (ie: hockey organizing experience, managerial or accounting skills, experience on other boards, etc...)
Blades Against AIDS: We're on!
This Year's Blades Against AIDS, an MGHA-sponsored fund raiser for the AIDS Network of Southcentral Wisconsin, will be held on November 8th from 7-9pm at at the Madison Ice Arena.
Two to three volunteers are currently needed to assist event coordinator, Shawn Waldron in planning the event. If you are interested, please contact him at swaldron2@gmail.com.
An additional 10 to 15 volunteers to help with the actual event will be called for around 4 weeks prior to the event, so please do not contact Shawn for that at this time.
