We are proud to be the premier LGBTQA ice hockey league in Wisconsin and to provide an environment free of harassment and discrimination for members and friends of our community to play ice hockey and fulfill their athletic aspirations. We are a comprehensive league that supports and encourages both beginners and seasoned players to interact, teach, learn and foster athletic development in a welcoming, constructive environment. It's the middle of summer, and while the fall hockey season may seem far away, it's already time to start thinking about it.

New Players: Apply

We are currently taking applications for the 2008-09 season which begins in September. If you know someone interested in joining the MGHA, please tell them to submit a New Player Application. The Recruiting committee will contact them within seven days of submitting an application. If there are any questions about the MGHA or the recruiting process, please contact the MGHA Recruiting Committee.

Existing Players: Nominate

Current MGHA players: you have a firsthand understanding of the level of play, open-mindedness, and support provided in the league. As such, your feedback and assessment of new player candidates provide important information in the selection process. If you know someone interested in playing hockey with the MGHA, you can submit a New Player Nomination Form.

CGHA Invitation to Chicago Pride

Members of the Chicago Gay Hockey Association have contacted the MGHA and invited any players who plan to be in Chicago this weekend to march with them in the Pride Parade on Sunday.

Gear Cleaning

Are locker room jokes about your gear's not-so-fresh-ness getting you down? Maybe it's time to get your gear cleaned. Stefan Strandberg has offered to coordinate getting a group discount from Clean Gear of Wisconsin (http://www.cleangearwi.com, a gear cleaning service that was recommended in the MGHA forums. Their standard rate for pads is $45 (excluding helmet and skates), and groups of 10 or more get a 10% discount.

Sunday Scrimmage Openings

With all the Pride festivities in the Twin Cities and Chicago this weekend, the sign up list for this week's MGHA scrimmage on Sunday is looking a bit short. We still have a lot of openings on the bench, so if you're going to be around, sign up to come play.

At the recent MGHA board retreat the board ratified a new mission that we think more clearly captures the essence of the league. In developing the new mission we relied heavily on the input you gave us in the end-of-season surveys, so thanks again to all who responded.

The Madison Gay Hockey Association is an adult developmental ice hockey league for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and Allied (LGBTQA) Community. We provide opportunities to learn and teach ice hockey in a safe, supportive and fun environment. We aspire to the highest standards of sportsmanship and promote integration within the LGBTQA and wider Madison Communities.

The MGHA summer scrimmage season is here!

When: Sunday, June 1, 5:30pm-6:30pm and most Sundays through early August
Who: 20 skaters & 2 goalies
Cost: $12 for skaters, no cost to goalies

The summer scrimmage season will last 11 weeks with the weekend of July 6th off. Scrimmages will be held at Madison Ice Arena each Sunday starting June 1 at 5:30pm. All current and past MGHA players with current USA Hockey registration are eligible to play.

Players will sign up for scrimmages each week through the website, www.madisongayhockey.org. Signups will open each week on Monday at noon and a box with a link to the signup page will appear on the home page. You must be logged in to your MGHA website account to see the signup box or to sign up. If you have forgotten your username or password, just click on the "Request new password" link in the login box. If you still are having difficulties, e-mail webmaster@madisongayhockey.org for help.

Regrettably, we must announce that Blades Against AIDS planned for March 1, 2008 has been postponed due a scheduling conflict beyond our control.
