From toe-to-head, the gear you'll need is:
- Skates
- Good socks for your feet
- Shin guards
- Pants (a.k.a. breezers)
- Hockey socks (a.k.a. hockey stockings)
- Garter belt or hockey shorts with velcro or clips to hold up your hockey socks
- Cup (male) or pelvic protector (female)
- Elbow pads
- Sholder pads
- Gloves
- Undershirt
- Jersey (a.k.a. sweater)
- Helmet
- FULL face mask (metal bird cage or plastic shield)
- Sticks
Other stuff you may want include:
- Bag to carry it all (good gear bags include vents and pockets for small stuff)
- Mouth piece (boil-n-bite, to protect against concussions)
- Throat protector (required in a few rinks)
- Water bottle
- Any color cloth tape and black friction tape
- Skate guards, plastic ones you can walk on or just those terry cloth sock thingys
